The Barry Ball project was quite interesting. It all started when, in
order to avoid studying for finals, Keith, Barry, and I had a big duct tape
war. Cleaning up from that resulted in a medium sized ball of used tape.
Keith and I obviously didn't want all that tape to go to waste, so we
decided to turn it into a gift for Barry who was about to graduate. The
Barry Ball was born. The core was solid duct tape surrounded by a paper
shell and coated with several layers of fresh tape. I walked all the way
down to Walgreens to purchase enough to finish construction.
To finish the project, we put the Ball in a box and I wrapped it many times
with various materials. Some of the layers included paper, packing tape,
foil, plastic wrap, and paper towels.

Not just any giant ball of duct tape - it's the Barry Ball!

How many people get something like that when they graduate?

Anuj wants the Barry Ball. He is contemplating making a run for it, but he
knows that Barry is speedy and will catch him before he gets very far.

And that's just the first part of the story. Barry was getting married at
the end of that summer and Keith and I were invited. We were afraid Barry
would try to return the Barry Ball, so we built the Barry Ball II. It was
bigger and better than the original! We wrapped up the new work of art all
pretty and left it on the gift table at the wedding. :) Barry did indeed
return the original Barry Ball - he even autographed it. It currently
resides in my basement at home.
