The trees in the background are on Nicollet Island. Part of the river splits off to the left there. They join up again just above the apron before the falls.

This is the path that runs along the east edge of the island.

Still following the path. The Gold Medal Flour mill is in the background.

This is another really cool bridge. At one point it had rails on it, but they are gone now.

dcp 0866

dcp 0866
The whole thing is large square timbers with gaps in between. Lots of old rail spikes are still stuck in the wood.

That bridge has active rails on it.

I almost got hit by a train the first time I came through here. :) Remember to *always* peek around the corner of such bridges to check for trains before stepping out near the track!

What's this? The road is closed?

It turned out to be a big fine arts fair. People were selling all kinds of stuff in these tents.

The Nicollet Island Pavilion takes up the southern most tip of the island. I wanted to go out there to take some pictures of the falls from the top. However, the stupid Dullinger's had to go and get married (and have their reception here). Some big guy yelled at me when I tried to ride out there in shorts and a t-shirt. :)

Dum de dum de dum. That's a lot of booths!

A lot of people were trying to sell overpriced photographs. Who on earth would pay $50 for a photograph of a No Outlet sign? Good grief! I did keep a close eye open for moose photos. No one had any! Either they are really popular, or these people have their priorities all wrong. :)

Here's the other side of the Hennipen Bridge.

This is Main Street. It runs parallel to the river on the east side. Today there are old spiffed up cars on the street and the booths keep on going down the parkway just off the right side of the picture.

A crazy looking car.

That's it for the Stone Arch Festival of the Arts. The buildling in the left corner is the Pillsbury "A" Mill. It has that big Pillsbury Best Flour sign on top of it.

Last picture. This engine was stacking cars from the Pillsbury lines into a long chain and eventually pushed them way down the tracks to the right.
