![]() dcp 0860 The trees in the background are on Nicollet Island. Part of the river splits off to the left there. They join up again just above the apron before the falls. |
![]() dcp 0861 |
![]() dcp 0862 This is the path that runs along the east edge of the island. |
![]() dcp 0863 Looking back at the park. |
![]() dcp 0864 Still following the path. The Gold Medal Flour mill is in the background. |
![]() dcp 0865 This is another really cool bridge. At one point it had rails on it, but they are gone now. |
![]() dcp 0866 The whole thing is large square timbers with gaps in between. Lots of old rail spikes are still stuck in the wood. |
![]() dcp 0867 |
![]() dcp 0868 That bridge has active rails on it. |
![]() dcp 0869 |
![]() dcp 0870 I almost got hit by a train the first time I came through here. :) Remember to *always* peek around the corner of such bridges to check for trains before stepping out near the track! |
![]() dcp 0871 What's this? The road is closed? |
![]() dcp 0872 It turned out to be a big fine arts fair. People were selling all kinds of stuff in these tents. |
![]() dcp 0873 |
![]() dcp 0874 The Nicollet Island Pavilion takes up the southern most tip of the island. I wanted to go out there to take some pictures of the falls from the top. However, the stupid Dullinger's had to go and get married (and have their reception here). Some big guy yelled at me when I tried to ride out there in shorts and a t-shirt. :) |
![]() dcp 0875 |
![]() dcp 0876 Dum de dum de dum. That's a lot of booths! |
![]() dcp 0877 A lot of people were trying to sell overpriced photographs. Who on earth would pay $50 for a photograph of a No Outlet sign? Good grief! I did keep a close eye open for moose photos. No one had any! Either they are really popular, or these people have their priorities all wrong. :) |
![]() dcp 0878 Here's the other side of the Hennipen Bridge. |
![]() dcp 0879 There's one of the river boats from before. |

![]() dcp 0884 That's the Merriam Street Bridge. It's closed. |
![]() dcp 0885 The apron from the east bank... |

![]() dcp 0889 |
![]() dcp 0890 This is Main Street. It runs parallel to the river on the east side. Today there are old spiffed up cars on the street and the booths keep on going down the parkway just off the right side of the picture. |
![]() dcp 0891 A crazy looking car. |
![]() dcp 0892 |
![]() dcp 0893 That's it for the Stone Arch Festival of the Arts. The buildling in the left corner is the Pillsbury "A" Mill. It has that big Pillsbury Best Flour sign on top of it. |
![]() dcp 0894 |
![]() dcp 0895 Last picture. This engine was stacking cars from the Pillsbury lines into a long chain and eventually pushed them way down the tracks to the right. |
