Looking east across the river towards the University of Minnesota.

The bridge in the foreground is the street that runs right outside my window. The one in the background is Interstate 35W.

dcp 0686

dcp 0686
Lots of the bridges support pipes and stuff underneath.

The concrete wall in the foreground is part of the lower St. Anthony falls lock.

dcp 0688

dcp 0688
There's the lock.

Across the river there is another steam plant. That really big brown pipe thing pops out of the ground in the trees and then just ends in the middle of nowhere. Weird.

The apartment is right behind that Holiday Inn.

This and the next picture were taken one after the other from the same place. I just changed the shutter time a little to experiment with shooting into the sun.

I took this through the fence around a natural gas company. There is a long pile of crushed rocks with vent pipes sticking out of it running down their property. Weird.

Again, this and the next picture are the same except for the shutter time.

This is the biggest power-line-holding-up-thing I have ever seen! It would take three people holding hands to reach around the base of those supports at the ground. This is the west anchor point for those six lines that span the river.

There's the other one on the far side.

Right now there is a lot of dirt between the west bank mills and the river. Eventually it will be converted into a pretty cool park.

dcp 0707

dcp 0707
Work on the park. Several arches were removed from the bridge and replaced with trusses to allow boat traffic to pass underneath. The upper lock is just behind the bridge on the left.

Water from above the falls used to flow into pipes, go through the mills, and then exit right down there. It looks more interesting when standing on the bridge looking this way...

Those buildings are where the Pillsbury company originally got started. The mills are still in operation today.

This is part of the abandoned Gold Medal Flour mill. The storage silos are huge.

dcp 0712

This building was part of the mill, but suffered a bad fire several years ago. They are now working to stabalize the building and turn it into a museum. Cool.

See, I told you so.

Moving down the line we have old mill buildings that are being turned into apartments! People are already living in the one on the right.

I don't know. It's a big concrete "O".

Most of the Hyatt building is an old mill too.
