The night I had to break into my own bedroom.

11:30pm - It's a nice night, so I go out for a little walk.

12:30am - I return, ready for sleep. But wait. My bedroom door is closed... and locked! What?!? Evidently, while I was gone, my roommate felt the need to close my door for some unknown reason. And unfortunately, the door was locked. All my things are behind that door, so things weren't looking good. However, I was determined - it would only be a matter of time...

2:14am - After trying many, many different approaches, I finally defeated the lock. The final solution was a combination of a plastic hanger, a short length of stiff wire, and a short phone cord. I was able to manipulate this contraption under the door, grab onto the inside handle, and pull it down enough to open the door.

2:15am - Now inside, I grabbed my camera, took the following pictures, and prompty went to bed.

There's the winning device as it hung after I achieved success. It was quite difficult to keep that wire from slipping off the handle.

I needed the phone cable to pull the handle down once I captured it with the wire.

This box-o-computer-stuff, plus kitchen supplies, were all the resources I had.

One failed attempt to slide the lock involved cutting a hole in that IDE ribbon. Poor thing.

Thank goodness something worked!

Yikes! It's late! That took a long time.

The next afternoon I went down to the apartment office and acquired the bedroom key that I should have had before, but didn't think I would even need. It is now hidden outside of the bedroom in case of future accidental lock out situations.
