I took my bike to explore further away from home and ran into this dam five miles down the river. It is the northern most dam in the 9-foot channel project and sports two parallel locks.

In 1923 the government granted Ford a license to build a hydro power plant on the east bank provided they supply the lock with electricity for operation.

For scale, the yellow railings on the lock doors are about 4 feet high.

The observation area at this lock is very extensive. The public can walk above the lower gates and across to the far fall wall. Pretty cool.

You can see the observation walkway there. The locks are controlled from that tower.

It takes a lot of water to fill that up!

Those trees are really on a small island. It had been raining a lot the previous week though.

It took less than 10 minutes for that whole tank to empty!
